2011 was a big year for the USA in downhill mountain biking: it marked the first time in the history of mountain biking that an American took the overall men's World Cup title! Despite the fact that America was the birth place of mountain biking, it took us 34 or 35 years to grab this title, and it was done by a talented 23 year old by the name of Aaron Gwin.

But why do I share this here, on Cranial Collision? Wouldn't it be much better suited for GregRidesTrails or Singletracks?

In a recent feature article about Gwin in BIKE magazine, we read:

"His faith in God drives his plan, he says.
'God has a plan that's bigger than mine, so I don't worry, I just enjoy it. If it doesn't happen, then it wasn't meant to be.'"

I thought it was so cool that Gwin gave the credit for his historic achievement to God. What really makes this so special is that the sport of mountain biking is generally a very rowdy, secular lifestyle. Seeing someone like Gwin who is at the absolute top of the world talent-wise give all the credit to God is just unheard of.

To cap it all off, this was published in a magazine that is known for being somewhat irreverent and rough around the edges... although I guess that's just about every mountain bike magazine.

Be sure to grab the most recent issue of BIKE and read up on Gwin!
