Aristotle on Action

Greg Heil | 7:07 AM
"But most people, instead of acting, take refuge in theorizing: they imagine that they are philosophers and that philosophy will make them virtuous; in fact, they behave like people who listen attentively to their doctors but never do anything that their doctors tell them. But a healthy state of the soul will no more be produced by this kind of philosophizing than a healthy state of the body by this kind of medical treatment." -Aristotle

Aristotle's point in this quotation really hits close to home! Here on Cranial Collision, our primary goal is to get you to think about what you believe, why you believe it, and how it should impact your life. But as Aristotle eloquently noted, if you don't make the step from philosophy to action you are simply hiding behind your "theorizing."

Instead of just simply pondering our mission in life, whether or not we should go to church, or if the Bible is actually worth reading, we must make the transition from introspection to action and step out and live the mission, attend church and fellowship with other believers, and make the commitment to dig in and read the Bible.

I want to throw down a serious challenge to us all to actually make the effort to allow truth to shake up our lives and change the way we live.

Let us think deeply, and live authentically!

  1. In 1864, in the thick of the civil war, Union General George Meade rode out to reconnoiter with his staff. They came to a small river and debated how deep the water was. This debate went on for a while. One of General Meade's staff members was George Armstrong Custer. Tiring of the debate, Custer rode his horse into the middle of the stream, turned, and said, "This is how deep it is, General."

This is what were all about.
Looks like I'll be giving a presentation on this for communications in April or May.

We've got one life; one very short life. Let's make it count.
